Officially, Godswill Akpabio, a senator from Akwa Ibom State, has failed in his quest to return to the senate for another term.
In a recently announced result by INEC, this afternoon, Mr Akpabio’s opponent, Chris Ekpenyong, was named the winner in Akwa Ibom North-West District.
Prof Peter Oban, the returning officer in charge of announcements declared that Godswill Akpabio garnered 83,158 votes while Chris Ekpenyong clinched 118,215 votes.
However, the results were not declared in the Akwa Ibom North-West District due to security concerns, and they resorted to safer location to annouce the outcomes of the election.
Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Akwa Ibom, Mike Igini spoke on the security issues in Akwa Ibom here, “The results are ready, but INEC can’t declare it in Uyo. The law says the election results must be declared at the senatorial district,”
“The report we are getting about the security situation in Ikot Ekpene is that it is not okay for INEC to go there and announce results.”
