Bayelsa State Governor Hon Henry Seriake Dickson has charged Members of the Nigerian Wrestling Team to this year’s Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland to make the country proud by winning laurels at the games scheduled to hold between the 23rd of July and the 3rd of August.
Governor Dickson made the call when a delegation of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation led by its President, Hon. Daniel Igali paid him a courtesy call at the Bayelsa House in Abuja.
The Bayelsa state Governor, who expressed high hopes on the team’s ability to make the Country proud at the games, noted with delight, the domineering role of Bayelsa, whose wrestlers have always broughthonour to the Country at major international events.
While charging them to be dedicated, patriotic and disciplined at the games, Governor Dickson reminded the wrestlers of the deep rooted love and interest Bayelsans, including himself, who is a one time champion has for the sport and remains an avid fan.
According to him, to underscore the interest the State and its people has for the sport, Government is making arrangements to send a high powered delegation, which he would personally lead to support the Nigerian Wrestling Team at the games.
He pledged the support of the Government and the people of the state to the Nigerian Wrestling Federation in their efforts at taking Nigerian wrestling to more respectable heights in the global arena.
In his own remarks the leader of the delegation and President of the Wrestling Federation, Hon. Daniel Igali, thanked the Governor for taking time out of his busy schedule to receive the delegation.
He expressed satisfaction with the level of commitment and support, the Governors has been giving to development of sports in the State and the Country at large, explaining that, the team of wrestlers selected to represent the country have been training hard with a view to bringing glory to Nigeria.
Hon. Igali, who is also a member of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, remarked that, the visit was to enable the Federation show appreciation to the Governor for the support he has continued to give to wrestling in the country and urged him not to relent.
The delegation was made up of fifteen wrestlers as well as officials, coaches and technical advisers of the Nigerian Wrestling Federation.
