Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has vehemently denied reports suggesting that his administration spent N400 million on local and foreign trips, dismissing the allegations made by the All Progressives Congress (APC) as politically motivated.
In a statement released by his spokesman, Suleiman Bala Idris, the governor accused the opposition party of seeking to condemn his administration without valid grounds.
The statement clarified that an online newspaper had erroneously reported specific spending details, including N170,276,294.31 on international travel and transport, N221,567,094 on local travel, and N6,929,500.00 on private security within three months.

It asserted that this misinformation resulted from a deliberate misinterpretation of budget data, emphasizing that the mentioned quarters fell under the immediate past administration.
“We have read a report from the online, alleging that Governor Dauda Lawal spent over N400 million on foreign trips. This is false and an attempt to tarnish the governor’s image,” the statement declared.
Governor Lawal emphasized his commitment to transparency and accountability, directing the public to the official website of the Zamfara State Government for detailed budget performance reports.
The statement clarified that the governor had undertaken only three official foreign trips since assuming office, including attendance at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in the United States of America, a United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Retreat in Kigali, Rwanda, and a meeting with the President of the African Development Bank in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.
The governor refuted claims of spending on private security services and questioned the attribution of funding for the Ramadan Fasting and Eid-el-Fitr (Sallah) gifts to his administration.
He reiterated his commitment to maintaining transparency and vowed not to be deterred by misinformation in the pursuit of the administration’s comprehensive rescue mission.
