Nigerian unemployed youths have been advised to tap into the agricultural potentials inherent in the country which would serve as a way out of the unemployment situation that is prevalent in Nigeria.
This call was made during a personal visit to Solomon Kesington Agro Allied Limited, Iperu Remo, by the Ekiti State Governor, His Excellency, Dr Ayodele Fayose, on May 28, 2017. The livestock industry was established in 1991 by Hon (Dr) Ladi Adebutu, Chairman, House Committee on Rural Development.
According to Governor Fayose, while assessing the multi-million naira 26 years old farm, said that the farm was quite overwhelming and portended great hope for the country and the youths. “I am sincerely impressed with what I saw here. I recommend this farm to resilient people that want to go into animal husbandry to come for training” he said.
Fayose stated that he hoped to replicate the model in Ekiti as such planned to bring selected willing youths from Ekiti State to come for training in batches and on regular basis. He commended Hon Ladi Adebutu, the Chairman/CEO of the company, for his commitment to national development. He was particularly impressed that the billionaire lawmaker could choose to embrace farming when the focus of others was on the black oil.
Occupying a land mass of about 130 acres and strategically situated equidistant between Sagamu and Iperu Remo, Ogun State, Solomon Kesington Agro-Allied Limited is a leader in the livestock industry. The farm, probably the largest in Nigeria and West Africa, boasts of over 20,000 pigs housed in 85 pen blocks consisting of 1,200 pens. It, also, has in stock close to 2,000 cows, hundreds of goats, rams, horses, camels, donkeys, sheep, crocodiles and geese.
