Governor Seyi Makinde has taken a decisive step to regulate the operation of motorcyclists and tricyclists in Oyo State, declaring that unregistered operators will be prohibited from plying the roads effective January 1, 2024.
Governor Makinde conveyed this directive on Wednesday following a meeting of the state’s security council.
He urged all commercial motorcycle and tricycle operators within the state to enroll in the Oyo State Residents’ Registration Scheme before December 31, 2023, to avoid disruptions to their operations.

Addressing the media, Governor Makinde emphasized the state’s commitment to addressing the challenges associated with commercial motorcycle and tricycle activities to enhance overall security.
Starting from January 1, 2024, Governor Makinde asserted that only registered motorcycle and tricycle operators would be permitted to operate in the state.
He emphasized, “All commercial motorcycle and tricycle riders must ensure that they are captured under the state’s registration scheme.”
The registration process, outlined by the governor, will encompass capturing biometric data, including names, motorcycle registration numbers, next of kin details, and other critical information.
This comprehensive registration is intended to enhance accountability and contribute to a more secure and well-documented transportation system within Oyo State.
Governor Makinde’s announcement underscores the state’s commitment to proactive measures aimed at ensuring the safety and regulation of transportation services, creating a more secure environment for both operators and the public.
