Edo State Governor, Mr. Adams Oshiomhole, has expressed his condolence with the General Secretary, National Union of Garment and Textile Workers, Comrade Issa Aremu on the death of his wife, Hajia Hamdalat Aremu, describing her as a woman with “a heart of gold”.
In a condolence letter to the bereaved labour leader, the Governor said “there comes a time in a man’s life when words become insufficient to describe happenings around us. The painful death of your dear wife beats me hollow; I have been shell shocked since the news broke out a couple of days back and left me utterly undone that death could snatch such a loving soul mate of my friend, brother, cerebral labour activist, public commentator and fellow Comrade. It is true that as mortals, we are easily helpless when it comes to matters of death, but the timing of it often leaves us with psychological and emotional trauma.
“Hajia Hamdalat Aremu was such a calm and collected woman with the heart of gold, blessed with children that have remained worthy ambassadors of the larger Aremu family. For years, she has tolerated her husband Issa Aremu who is often on the field mobilizing Nigerian workers for a better society, the same way that my late wife tolerated me in the years of great labour struggles for improved workers welfare and services. In such scenario, often times, the wife plays the role of both mother and father to the family; that is why death such as this leaves a gaping hole in the heart with a deep feeling of nostalgia.
“As fellow Comrades, we often time joked about the lesser time we’ve had to spend with our immediate families and the huge sacrifices that our family had to make to maintain a stable home front while we are on the field of labour struggles to add value to society. These are huge sacrifices that cannot be replaced. The death of this great family woman, a Lady of quintessential attributes, a mother of exemplary upbringing, is a great loss to all of us.
“May the Almighty Allah in His infinite mercy, comfort my friend, brother and authentic Comrade Issa Aremu and members of his family, at this moment of grief. May He forgive her sins and grant her Aljannah Fidaus.” [EDSG]
