A pro-democracy group, Akwa Ibom Democratic Initiative (AIDI) has said Governor Udom Emmanuel had no hand in the arrest and detention of a social media writer, Mr. Michael Itok, who was detained by the DSS.
In a recent statement, the convener of the group, Obong Henry Akpan said Itok’s case is a criminal one and anybody accusing Udom Emmanuel is responsible should focus on getting lawyers to defend Itok rather than making malicious statements in the media against an innocent man.
The statement said Michael Itok was simply jailed by the security after several malicious publications made by him on social media against the Governor.
It read, “Michael Itok was fished out by the security agencies and interrogated and he, without duress admitted and confessed to being the author of the malicious and libellous materials and was duly detained by the appropriate law enforcement agencies. He is being prosecuted accordingly.”
