Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has sworn in the 44 newly elected local government chairmen and 484 councillors, with a directive for them to assume office on Monday, October 28, 2024.
The oath of office was administered by the state Commissioner of Justice, Barrister Haruna Isa Dederi, during a ceremony held on Sunday at Africa House, Government House, Kano.
The event attracted thousands of supporters of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).
In his address, Governor Yusuf congratulated the elected officials, describing their victory as a significant milestone in the consolidation of democracy in Kano.
He praised the Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC) for organizing free, fair, and peaceful elections, commending the commission for ensuring timely entitlements for the newly elected council members.
“This seamless process reflects our administration’s commitment to transparency and good governance,” the governor said.
Governor Yusuf expressed gratitude to the people of Kano for their orderly participation in the elections, hailing their conduct as exemplary. He also recognized the efforts of security agencies in maintaining peace during the polls.
The governor urged the chairmen and councillors to uphold honesty, integrity, and accountability in their duties.
He emphasized the importance of earning the trust of the electorate and warned them against any actions that could betray public confidence.
“Your mandate is a trust from the people. Work diligently and ensure that your actions reflect the will of those who elected you,” Yusuf stated.
He concluded by directing all the newly sworn-in officials to resume office immediately on Monday, October 28, 2024, to begin delivering on their responsibilities.
