The Chairman, Rivers State Committee on Removal of Scrap Metals from streets and waterways, Chief Solomon Chuku gave the ultimatum while speaking to newsmen after inspecting some dumps within the Trans-Amadi axis of Port Harcourt metropolis. Chief Chuku warned that any scrap metal or abandoned vehicles/trucks found on the streets of Port Harcourt and environs would be confiscated after the expiration of seven days removal notice placed on the property. He, however, rejected the practice of conveying scrap metals from the State to other States in the country for recycling while the scrap to wealth materials processing facilities exists here, warning that hence forth, any truck found to be conveying scrap metals out of the State without due permit from the Ministry would be impounded. According to him, the era of using Rivers State as a dumping ground for scrap metals thereby, causing environmental pollution is over and warned that anyone caught would be arrested and prosecuted.
