The Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole has iterated the need for team work and elimination of intra and inter-professional rivalry in the health sector. He made this statement during the 2015 Induction Course for states’ newly elected officers of the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) in Abuja.
The minister noted that in the 21st Century with so many changes occurring, nurses must strive to be partners in all aspects of care – policy formulation, initiating, planning or implementing changes, maintaining roles as patient’s advocate, and learning additional skills and development of competences. He added that they must be able to invest their time and resources in formal processes of leadership development such as mentorship, volunteerism and advocacy.
He further noted that the Federl Ministry of Health would seek for support from the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) in re-construing and re-positing the nation’s healthcare system. He added that the present administration of President Muhammadu Buhari is committed to promoting qualitative healthcare to all Nigerians, irrespective of their socio-economic status. He affirmed the slogan in the health sector to be: “Every Life Counts and Every Death Will Also Count.”
The Minister lauded the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) for introducing the induction programme for its newly elected officers, expressing belief that the new ‘Exco’ would partner with the Federal Ministry of Health to deliver healthcare to the people of Nigeria.
Speaking at the occasion, the President of the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNM), Abdrafiu Alani Adeniji pledged that the association would support the present administration in area of healthcare service delivery.
Also speaking at the event, the Acting General Secretary of NANNM, Tijain Shettima appreciated the Federal Ministry of Health for support to the association, adding that the induction course for the new officers would empower them to carry out their duties successfully. [FMH]
