The House of Representatives has directed its Committees on Special Duties, National Planning, and Economic Development to investigate the spending and utilization of increased allocations from the Federal Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) by state governments.
Additionally, the Committee on Inter-Governmental Affairs has been mandated to join the investigation and report back to the house within four weeks for further legislative action.
The resolution followed the adoption of a motion of urgent public importance by Rep. Ademorin Kuye (APC-Lagos) on the floor of the house in Abuja on Tuesday.

Kuye argued that states and local government areas had received more funds from FAAC in the last seven months after the subsidy removal, with a total of N6.57 trillion received in 2023, double the N3.16 trillion received in 2022.
Despite the increased funds, Kuye noted that more than 14.2 million citizens continued to grapple with poverty, and some states were still facing challenges such as salary payments, effective management of public institutions, provision of public transportation, and access to potable water.
He also highlighted that the unemployment rate had increased to over 51 percent in some states.
Kuye expressed concern that some state governors were not complementing the Federal Government’s poverty alleviation efforts and urged states to drive necessary economic transformations to reduce the suffering of Nigerians.
