A 25-year-old housemaid, Tina Kwesi, who allegedly stole her employer’s jewellery worth N50m was on Friday brought before an Igbosere Magistrate’s Court in Lagos.
Kwesi, who hails from Benue, is standing trial on a two counts of conspiracy and stealing.
The Prosecutor, Babaji Ishaku, told the court that the accused committed the offences on November 25 at 9, Shanti Sule Street, Lekki Phase 1 in Lagos State.
Ishaku said the accused conspired with one other person still at large, to steal assorted gold jewellery valued at N50m, property of one Mrs Victoria Sule.
The prosecutor stated that the accused was working as a maid in the house of Sule and she had access to where the jewellery were kept.
He said the offences committed contravened Sections 285 and 409 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2011.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Counsel for the accused, Mrs. Nina Lawani, urged the court to admit the accused to bail on liberal terms.
The Magistrate, Miss O. O. Fawowe, admitted her to bail in the sum of N1m with two sureties in like sum.
She directed that one of the sureties must be a blood relation of the accused.
The magistrate also directed that the sureties must be gainfully employed and that the addresses of the sureties must be verified by the police.
She adjourned the case to January 19, 2015, for mention. (NAN)
