The husband of Tasleem Baba Nabegu, the woman allegedly found with the suspended Jigawa State Commissioner for Special Duties, Auwal Danladi Sankara, has filed a case at the Kano Upper Shari’a Court 1, Kofar Kudu.
The case, presided over by Ustaz Ibrahim Sarki Yola, is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, focusing on allegations of adultery against Sankara and Tasleem Baba Nabegu.
The complainant, Alhaji Nasiru Buba, filed a direct complaint alleging that Sankara and his wife, Tasleem, the mother of his two children, have been involved in an illicit relationship, violating Islamic law.
Last Thursday, the Kano State Hisbah Board announced the arrest of Sankara with Tasleem at an uncompleted building belonging to him on Lamido Crescent, Nassarawa GRA, within Kano metropolis.
Following the incident, Jigawa State Governor Umar Namadi suspended the embattled commissioner and set up a five-member panel to investigate the matter, which has stirred public embarrassment.
On Monday, the court registrar confirmed that the hearing would commence on Tuesday.
Speaking with reporters, the complainant’s counsel, Barrister Sa’idu Muhammad Tudu Wada, represented by Barrister Haruna Magashi, said:
“Our client is requesting the court to investigate the relationship between his wife and the defendant for possible criminal prosecution or appropriate legal action.”
Meanwhile, counsel to the accused, Barrister Shehu Sadam Suleiman, expressed his client’s surprise over the widespread media reports of his arrest by the Hisbah Board.
“It is important for journalists and the public to understand that this is a case of a direct criminal complaint by the complainant, not an action initiated by the Kano State Hisbah Board, as reflected in court records.
The case involves both our client and the complainant’s wife,” Suleiman clarified.
Suleiman emphasized that Sankara maintains his innocence and is eager to appear in court to clear his name.
