US President, Barack Obama has expressed confidence in the ability of the Muhammadu Buhari administration to lead Nigeria.
Obama also offered to assist the Buhari government as much as possible before leaving office.
The US president made the comments during a bilateral meeting held on the sidelines of the 71st United Nations General Assembly in New York.
“We have confidence in your leadership. There are some difficulties you face, but this administration is willing to assist in the short time we have left,” Obama said.
“You have made real progress in defeating the brutal organization called Boko Haram, and that was achieved because of your leadership,” he added.
Obama also described Buhari as a man of integrity and honesty.
The Nigerian president recently attracted controversy when it was discovered that parts of his “Change Begins With Me” speech were lifted from Obama’s 2008 victory speech.
The Nigerian Presidency confirmed the incident and described it as the work of an overzealous staff who would be sanctioned.
