Eric Cantona has said he “loves” Jose Mourinho but would like his team to be more adventurous.
Cantona said attacking football was part of United’s tradition and urged boss Mourinho to remove the handbrake.
“United always played in a good way and enjoy the game even at bad times — it’s the philosophy of the club, it’s very strong, it’s a creative game, the passing, the movement and everything,” the 51-year-old said.
Eric stressed: “I really love Mourinho. I love the way he played.
“It’s just I prefer if it is more offensive and that’s just because it’s United. It’s like Barcelona — if they played in a defensive way nobody would understand.
“But I do love Mourinho and he can win things and he will win things, which is very important.”
“I prefer when it’s more fancy and more creative, of course. It’s why I loved to play for United.”
Mourinho won two trophies in his first season at Old Trafford after taking over from Louis van Gaal in 2016.
