Lagos State Government (LASG) has renew its commitment to ensuring even development across the State last week with the flag-off of the reconstruction and upgrade of the Igbo-Bola Ahmed Tinubu-Igbe road in Igbogbo-Bayeku Local Council Development Area of Lagos.
The project is also a fulfilment of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode’s promise to rehabilitate the age long road as part of efforts to develop the area and open it up for more economic development and prosperity thereby reducing the rural-urban migration in the State.
Speaking at a Stakeholders’ meeting to seek the support and cooperation of the various segments of the society and community leaders during the reconstruction period, Mr. Rotimi Ogunleye, the State Commissioner for Commerce, Industry and Cooperatives, said the road construction was part of the infrastructure development vision of the State Government.
He said, apart from opening up the Igbogbo-Igbe road for residential and economic development as well as the provision of an investment friendly environment, the road construction will also improve public safety through a reduction in travel time, vehicle maintenance and transportation cost leading to a higher standard of living.
The Commissioner also said that the road will serve as a link to Ijede, Gberigbe and Imota where the State Government has established a Rice Mill with a capacity of 32million metric tons daily and Industrial Park.
Earlier, the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Works and Infrastructure – Engr. Olujimi Hotonu, enumerated the scope of the project to include dual carriageway road (two lanes in each direction), seven standard laybys on each side of the road, dedicated lanes for cyclists and pedestrians, provision of longitudinal and transverse service ducts and construction of three pedestrian Bridges.
Other features, according to him, include the provision of dedicated left and right turn lanes, construction of reinforced concrete drainages and culvert, signage and markings, traffic signal light and streetlights to illuminate the route.
Hotonu, therefore, charged the Community to support the government and the contractors.
Mrs. Afusat Adegun representing the Ministry of Physical Planning & Urban Development said the Ministry will commence serving notices on the owners of property that may be affected by the Right of Way alignment of the road; as such she sought for the support and cooperation of the stakeholders on the exercise.
On his part, the Ayangburen of Ikorodu, Oba Kabiru Shotobi seized the opportunity to advise landowners to preserve their land as the road will add value to their property while soliciting their cooperation in the monitoring of the projects against miscreants.
Speaking in the same vein, the Adeboruwa of Igbogbo, Oba Abdu-Semiu Kasali supported the views of Ayangburen and promised full cooperation of his subjects on the project.
Hon. Nurudeen Sholaja representing Ikorodu constituency II in the Lagos State House of Assembly assured residents, especially artisans and suppliers, of patronage by the contractor during the construction while enjoining the residents to support the project fully. (LASG)
