Ohanaeze Ndigbo, a cultural organization representing the Igbo people, has promised President Bola Tinubu that the Igbos in his cabinet will perform admirably.
Ohanaeze said this as it lauded Tinubu’s appointments of several famous Igbos, including Nyesom Wike as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Dave Umahi as Minister of Works, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla as Chief of Naval Staff, and others.
Following a joint Ime-Obi conference in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, as part of the celebrations celebrating the 2023 observance of Igbo Day, the leadership of Ohanaeze made this observation in a statement they issued.

The communique was signed by the secretaries general of each group, including Okechukwu Isiguzoro, Elechi Chinda-Wonye, and Thomas Ellah of Yale University.
Ohanaeze has advised the president to prioritize reopening the Port Harcourt wharf and other Eastern ports after praising Tinubu for his work on the Lagos-Calabar coastal road.
The statement begins, “We equally commend the President and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces, Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency, Senator Bola Ahmed Tibubu, GCFR for the appointment of Ndigbo into some strategic positions in his Government, including the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla; the Minister of Works, Engr Dave Umahi; and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Barr Nyesom Wike.”
We want to tell the President that even though these people were chosen because of their skills, they will go above and beyond his expectations.
“While praising the President for the Lagos-Calabar coastal road project, an Infrastructural project with tremendous benefits, we urge him to prioritize the reopening of the Port Harcourt wharf and other Eastern ports in order to ease the burden on the Lagos ports and lessen the perennial congestion on Lagos roads.”
It is in the Ohanaeze constitution that “it shall be the turn of Rivers State to produce the next President General, Ohanaeze Ndigbo come, 11th January, 2025,” so “hosting this Igbo Day is meant to mobilize and sensitize the stakeholders and members of the Rivers State chapter of the Apex Igbo organization to ensure that suitable candidates for the office are identified.”
