The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Solomon Arase, has ordered the deployment of additional manpower to Kogi and Bayelsa States, to ensure hitch-free gubernatorial election in both states.
The election in Kogi is slated for November 21 while that of Bayelsa comes up on December 5.
According to a statement Tuesday by the Force Public Relations Officer, Olabisi Kolawole, the deployment of additional policemen is to provide adequate security for the gubernatorial elections in the two states.
Kolawole, an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), also said the Police leadership also directed the deployment of Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS) to compliment the Safer Highway Patrol to ensure proper policing of the length and breadth of the nation’s highway.
The statement noted that while briefing members of the Police Management Team in his office, IGP Arase stressed that these measures have become imperative to ensure proper monitoring of activities leading to a hitch-fee election.
“This is in addition to stepping up Police visibilities on our Highways in the Yuletide, and to systematically decapitate hoodlums taking advantage of the season to unleash terror on innocent Nigerian”, ACP Kolawole said.
