Enrique Cerezo has come out to state that Atletico Madrid have evidence that Barcelona had agreed to terms with Antoine Griezmann before his release clause dropped to €120 million (£107m/$134m).
Barca announced the signing of the world cup winner yesterday on a five-year deal after a solicitor representing the forward deposited money for his buy-out clause at La Liga headquarters in Madrid.
The signing puts an end to a massive saga involving the Frenchman and Barcelona, as Griezmann had formerly denied the Spanish giant and decided to stay at Atletico Madrid.
That decision changed though when Grizu announced before the end of the season that he is done with Atletico.
However, Atletico Madrid believes Griezmann agreed to terms with Barca before his clause dropped from €200m (£180m/$226m) on July 1 and therefore feel they should be paid an additional €80m (£72m/$90m) to ratify the transfer.
Club President, Cerezo has now said Atletico has proof that Griezmann and Barcelona negotiated early and planned to request a greater fee.
His words to RAC1, “If the club have made this statement it’s because there’s evidence,”
“We have to study it and we’ll demand the amount we consider to be necessary.”
On Griezmann, “I’m disappointed by his attitude,”
“He wanted to leave, but he didn’t tell us until the last minute.”
