The immediate past Governor of Delta State, Ifeanyi Okowa, has expressed confidence in facing the ongoing probe by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), claiming he knows the individuals behind the investigation.
Okowa made the disclosure during a solidarity visit by the Delta State Traditional Rulers Council, led by Maj.-Gen. Felix Mujakperuo (retd.), the Orodje of Okpe, to his residence in Asaba.
The former governor, who served two terms, is being investigated by the EFCC over an alleged diversion of N1.3 trillion.

Speaking on the matter, Okowa described the allegations as malicious and politically motivated, accusing certain individuals of attempting to distort facts for their personal gain.
“In politics, there are many things one must face, but it’s unfortunate when baseless accusations are presented to the media,” Okowa said.
He dismissed claims of misappropriating such a large sum, explaining that the allegation would mean taking N16 to N20 billion monthly over his eight-year tenure, which he termed “unreasonable” and a “deliberate attempt to mislead.”
Okowa emphasized his transparency, stating that he welcomed the EFCC’s investigation and had no intention of obstructing the process, unlike others who seek court orders to block such probes.
“I am not afraid of any investigation and will not stop the EFCC from carrying out its duties. However, the public deserves accurate information, not fabrications by certain individuals,” he stated.
The former vice-presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 general elections reiterated that the allegations were purely political.
He added that he had confidently addressed all questions posed by the EFCC and urged the public to be wary of false narratives.
