Factional leader of the Peoples Democratic Party, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, has claimed ignorance of the party to have a repeat of national convention in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
In a report by Tribune Newspaper, Sheriff maintained that he is not aware of the plan by the party to have another national convention by the National Caretaker Committee led by Senator Ahmed Makarfi.
Speaking on his behalf, Sheriff’s Special Assistant on media and publicity, Inuwa Bwala, said Sheriff was not interested in the convention as he was busy fixing the party.
“We don’t have to be reacting. He is doing his convention; we are doing some other things. They are putting us on the defensive and that will not sell.
“We are not part of it, we don’t know about it and we will not even comment about it.
“Let’s just wait and see whether he will have his way.
“We are fixing the party. We are trying to bring aggrieved members on board so that we can move the party forward,” Bwala said.
The repeat of the PDP national convention has been slated for Wednesday, August 17, 2016 by the Senator Ahmed Makarfi led National Caretaker Committee.
The convention is expected to elect new members of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the opposition party.
Stakeholders of the opposition party had tried resolving the lingering leadership tussle in the party to no avail and decided to go ahead with the convention.
