Senator Samuel Anyanwu, the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Imo State, has raised concerns over alleged electoral malpractices during Saturday’s election.
Addressing journalists at his Amaimo residence in Ikeduru Local Government Area (LGA) of Imo, Anyanwu claimed instances of ballot box snatching, vote buying, and other irregularities reported by party agents in the field.
Anyanwu, presenting evidence during the interview, asserted, “I have proof that one of the thugs involved is a member of the House of Assembly.
The lawmaker’s Identity Card fell off during the ballot box snatching, and I have it here with me.”
Expressing dismay over the reported incidents, Anyanwu called for the cancellation of election results in areas allegedly marred by thuggery and violence. Additionally, he urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to investigate and scrutinize activities in Ikeduru LGA.
“I call on INEC to consider the available evidence and cancel results of elections in the affected areas,” Anyanwu emphasized, highlighting the importance of addressing electoral integrity in the democratic process. The PDP candidate seeks a fair and transparent resolution to the reported irregularities to uphold the credibility of the electoral system.
