Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force, Imo State Command, have neutralized six suspects and destroyed a stronghold used by unknown gunmen and suspected kidnappers, who have been terrorizing parts of the state.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Henry Okoye, it was revealed that the operation led to the recovery of five AK-47 rifles, 552 rounds of live ammunition, and other materials, including Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) and communication equipment.
The police operation was part of ongoing efforts to combat criminal activities and restore peace and public safety across Nigeria.

According to Okoye, the operation was carried out by the Command’s tactical unit following credible intelligence about a terrorist hideout in the Ihube forest, Okigwe Local Government Area.
Upon approaching the hideout, the police team came under heavy fire from the suspected criminals, but they responded with exceptional courage, engaging in a fierce gun battle.
The operation led to the neutralization of six members of the criminal group, with three key suspects identified as Ifeanyi Anayo (a.k.a. Zuma De Rock), Chukwuemeka Odionyenfe (a.k.a. Nmimi), and Kingsley Sunday—all natives of Ogube, Ihube.
The police also recovered eight operational motorcycles used by the group. Prior investigations revealed that the group had been involved in several high-profile crimes, including the 2021 attack on the Owerri Correctional Center, the killing of five policemen in Umunna, Okigwe in December 2022, and the burning of the Arondizuogu Police Station in February 2022.
The group was also implicated in multiple kidnappings, including the abduction of WAEC staff in June 2023, four reverend sisters in August 2022, and four Chinese nationals in December 2023.
Following the successful operation, Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, commended the operatives for their bravery and coordination.
He called on police operatives across the country to maintain the momentum in the fight against crime.
The IGP urged the public to remain vigilant and collaborate with the police to promote peace and ensure a safer environment for all citizens.
