Chief Ezechukwu Obonna advocates against drug abuse and trafficking, emphasizing the need for collective efforts to combat the menace.
Chief Ezechukwu Obonna, the Special Adviser on Narcotics and Illicit Drugs Monitoring to Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State, has called on residents to join hands in creating a drug-free environment in the state.
Obonna made this appeal during his birthday celebration in Owerri, the capital of Imo State, on Saturday.

He emphasized the dangers of consuming drugs like Kush, which is reportedly made from human bones and chemicals, as well as the sniffing of human urine and remains.
In his statement, Obonna urged the public to resist the allure of illicit drugs, especially the emerging trend of Kush from Sierra Leone.
He emphasized, “Let’s try to resist the temptation of getting involved in the consumption and trafficking of illicit drugs, especially the dangerous trend from Sierra Leone called KUSH, which is a hard drug made from human bones and chemicals.”
Highlighting the urgency of the situation, he stressed the need for a collective effort to combat drug abuse, stating, “On this day of my birth, I wish and pray we all come together to fight this menace of drug abuse, which is now at an epidemic level.
The fight begins in our homes, as all hands must be on deck to ensure that we help our God-sent governor achieve his genuine aim of making our state drug-free, as this will translate to making our state crime-free.”
Obonna also noted a positive impact on security, citing reduced cases of violent crimes during the yuletide season, which he attributed to the government’s efforts to tackle insecurity, often linked to drug abuse.
He remarked, “According to him, there were little or no cases of violent crimes during the yuletide, an indication that the state government was winning the war against insecurity, which is usually aided by drug abuse.”
The Special Adviser stressed the importance of reducing drug demand, stating, “The total reduction in the rate of drug demand will see us winning the war entirely.”
His call for collaboration reflects the growing recognition of the need for a concerted effort to address drug-related challenges and ensure a safer environment for all residents of Imo State.
