The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced the issuance of identification tags to journalists accredited to cover the upcoming Edo State governorship election, scheduled for September 21, 2024.
The exercise took place at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) secretariat in Edo State, ensuring that media personnel are properly identified during the election coverage.
Sam Olumekun, INEC’s National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, confirmed that 114 media organisations successfully uploaded the details of 721 personnel for accreditation.
He added that the full list of accredited personnel, along with the number of individuals deployed, has been made available on INEC’s website and social media platforms for public access.
Olumekun assured that all accredited journalists would have unimpeded lawful access to voting and collation centres, reinforcing the commission’s commitment to transparency during the election.
He further urged media organisations and election observers to adhere to professional ethics and strictly follow INEC’s regulations and guidelines throughout the election process.
