(Ministry of Defence Reports) The Director of Defence Information in the Federal Ministry of Defence, Chris Olukolade (Maj. Gen) has announced that the ongoing onslaught against terrorists in some parts of the country will not be deterred by the unfortunate attacks being carried out against troops and innocent civilians by insurgents.
According to him, the terrorists who have been moving from village to village to attack innocent civilians are part of the group escaping from the onslaught against their makeshift hideout along the border and other entry points from neighbouring countries.
He further explained that the number of patrols fighting by air and land in the forests and hills of the affected areas and other parts of the North – East where Boko Haram terrorists hide have been stepped up. “The security forces will continue to employ necessary fire power to enhance the effectiveness of the mission, until the terrorists are duly curtailed,” he noted.
Chis Olukolade disclosed that the locations which are prone to attacks have been reinforced, whilst the general area is now under heightened surveillance and guard. Adding, some suspected perpetrators of the recent assault have been apprehended and weapons recovered from them.
He appealed for patience from the Nigerian public and called on residents in the affected areas to provide security agencies with timely information, in order to forestall the activities of the fleeing terrorists. He stated that their attacks on flexible targets are intended to provoke fear and false sense of invisibility.
