I’ve Not Dumped PDP For APC – Mohammed Abacha

GEJ-Mohammed AbachaMohammed Abacha, the son of late military dictator, General Sani Abacha, yesterday denied rumours making the rounds that he had defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), saying he remained a loyal and committed member of the PDP.

Mohammed is one of the aggrieved gubernatorial aspirants of the PDP in Kano State.

There were unconfirmed reports at the weekend that Abacha met leaders of the APC at the national level in an effort to pave the way for his eventual defection.

But in his reaction to the speculation, Abacha said he would remain in the PDP no matter the challenge.

“People have been calling to confirm the veracity of the report that I have decamped to APC. It is not true. I’m in PDP and will remain there Insha Allah. Rumour mongering is one of the ills hindering our political development in this country but unfortunately, it has become part of us in this county”, he said.

He expressed dismay over the conduct of the governorship primaries, saying the selection process of the party delegates was not done in accordance with the party’s constitution.

“We asked our party’s leadership to correct the anomaly in the selection process to avoid litigation after the poll. If our party wins election, our opponent can take us to court. To avoid this, we appeal for correction of the irregularities. Somebody has gone to court to seek redress on the irregularity and I won’t want to pre-empt the judgement but what I can say is that we are all waiting for the outcome of the case”, he said.
