Contrary to unconfirmed reports in a section of the media that he may have suspended his presidential ambition to work for the emergence of former head of state, General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd) as the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Senator Bukola Saraki has denied endorsing any of the aspirants.
Senator Saraki’s clarification came on the heels of a newspaper report, which specifically touted him as the possible director-general of Buhari’s 2015 campaign office.
But Saraki, through his campaign office on Monday, has denied the report.
A statement from the office said: “Our office will like to clear the air concerning the above. Senator Saraki, indeed, met with other aspirants as it relates to getting our country back on the right path. Senator Saraki is convinced that all candidates are committed to presenting candidates that will be acceptable by all. At this time, Senator Saraki has not endorsed any aspirant.
“Once a decision on what candidate best represents the aspiration of our teaming youths and members, Senator Saraki will communicate that officially to his supporters and friends. For now, we should all continue to work to build our party”.
Also re-affirming the position of one of his aides, Senator Saraki said his decision to drop out of the presidential race was borne out of the desire to ensure unity in the APC.
“I did not endorse any of the presidential aspirants; I am still consulting with my supporters and family members. I found the said report very embarrassing in the first place, because whatever decision I take in this regard will be made public. I am not a newspaper politician”, he stated.
