The Jigawa State Government has given its nod to a monthly allowance of N10,000 for persons with disabilities in the state.
This decision was revealed by the State Commissioner of Information Youth Support and Culture, Hon. Sagir Musa Ahmad, during a press briefing after the state executive council meeting.
Hon. Ahmad stated that the council approved an increase in the number of persons with disabilities entitled to the monthly allowance.

Previously, 150 beneficiaries were identified in each of the 27 local government areas. With the recent approval, this number has been raised to 200 beneficiaries per area.
Explaining further, Hon. Ahmad said, “The Council approved a memo from the Ministry of Women Affairs for Physical Verification/Validation of People with Disability and the Establishment of a Database of Orphans, Orphanages, and Vulnerable Aged Populations. Monthly allowances for people with disabilities were increased from N7,000 to N10,000.”
In a report by the media, it was noted that the state had faced challenges in updating the beneficiaries’ register over the years, resulting in the continued inclusion of deceased beneficiaries without replacements.
Hon. Adamu Sha’aibu Jigawa-Tsada, Chairman of the state chapter of the Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities (JONAPWD), expressed appreciation to Governor Umar Namadi for his efforts in enhancing the welfare of persons with disabilities.
The move by the Jigawa State Government is seen as a significant step towards improving the livelihoods of persons with disabilities in the state.
