The Jamaatu Nasril Islam (JNI) on Tuesday commended the National Human Rights Commission over its report on the Apo killings in which eight squatters were killed by security agents.
Dr Khalid Aliyu, JNI Secretary General, made the commendation in a statement issued in Kaduna.
It said the report had vindicated the stand of the JNI on the incident, and urged the Federal Government agencies indicted in the report to accept it in good faith.
The JNI condemned the senate committee that investigated and exonerated the State Security Service (SSS) and the Military of extra judicial killing, saying it had failed Nigerians.
It urged the commission to also focus on other cases of human rights violations and extra judicial killings in the country so as to end the impunity with which the lives of Nigerians were being treated by security agencies.
“The North East has dozens of such brutality with more painful dimensions.
“Human beings are not rats or cockroaches that would be smashed at the slightest opportunity for the attainment of the whim and caprices of selfish elements”, the JNI stated. (NAN)
