President Goodluck Jonathan has ordered the National Electricity Commission (NEC) to review electricity tariff downwards with immediately effect following complaint by Nigerians over the astronomical increase in the tariff.

This was disclosed, Tuesday, by the Minister of power, Prof. Chinedu Nebo, while fielding questions on CNBC cable network on the programme, Power Lunch West Africa.

According to Nebo, Jonathan expressed discomfort on hearing the news about the suffering Nigerians are passing through with the new electricity tariff and directed NEC to ensure that it reduces service charges without delay, irrespective of the reasons for the increase.

“The President was not comfortable with the astronomical increase in electricity tariff and advised NEC to reduce that with immediate effect and that is being done,” Nebo was quoted by Vanguard to have said.
