President Goodluck Jonathan has called on Nigerians particularly social media users to exercise patience as they await the official declaration of results for Saturday’s Presidential and National Assembly elections by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
The call by Jonathan, who is the Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the election, came on the heels of speculations in the social media that his main challenger, Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress, APC, is about to cause a major upset in the history of elections in the country.
The All Progressives Congress had also issued a statement on Sunday, alleging that the Jonathan administration was planning to manipulate the results. A claim the ruling PDP has denied.
However, in a post via his official Facebook page on Monday, Jonathan advised Nigerians to wait patiently for the results the same way they waited to vote on Saturday.
He also urged them not to embark on any acts that could lead to breakdown of law and order.
The President wrote, “We waited patiently to vote in these elections, now I want to urge all Nigerians to also wait patiently for the Independent National Electoral Commission to collate and announce results.
“We must ensure that we do not get involved in acts that breach our peaceful co-existence that we patriotically demonstrated during the elections.
“May God bless Nigeria”.
