Nasir-el-RufaiA former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress in Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, on Wednesday in Kafanchan, headquarters of Jema’a Local Government Area, asked members of the party to refrain from what he described as politics of blackmail.

The aspirant told party members to rather embrace issue-based politics geared towards national development.

He made the call while on tour of Southern Kaduna as part of his campaign strategy to woo people of the area ahead of the 2015 governorship election in the state.

This marks the second time in less than a month that the former minister would visit Southern Kaduna. The first time was when he visited Fadan Kagoma, the hometown of former governor of the state, late Patrick Yakowa, to formally inform people of the town of his gubernatorial ambition.

Speaking yesterday, El-Rufai urged APC members against responding to politics of blackmail, asking them instead to stick to issue-based politics to encourage development.

The former minister, who addressed the APC members in Kafanchan town, also condemned the series of killings in the area which he described as “ungodly and desecration of humanity”.

He further urged members of the party not to personalise issues, noting that he was not aspiring to govern the state for selfish interest but for the good of the people and the state.

“We shouldn’t personalise issues. It is not about El-Rufai; it is about the state and the people”, he said.

El-Rufai added that “It is about getting capable leadership to run government with justice, fear of God and vision.

“In the name of God, don’t blackmail any one; don’t engage anyone in harsh words; instead play issue-based politics. Like I said, it is not about me.

“I also thank you for ignoring fabricated hate messages being attributed to my person. Thank you for also not replying sponsored campaign of calumny. The beauty is, once you do thorough checks, you will realise that they are politically motivated; they have helped this project immensely because society knows the truth.

“What we need immediately is a government that must sincerely invest in education, health, good governance, economy, infrastructure, population structure and demographic dividend so as to save the future”.
