The Kaduna State House of Assembly has initiated a probe into the financial transactions of the state under the administration of former governor Nasir El-Rufai, spanning the years 2015 to 2023.
This move comes in response to concerns raised by Governor Uba Sani over the state’s financial situation, including a debt burden of N587 billion, N85 billion, and N115 billion in contractual liabilities inherited from the previous administration.
In a letter addressed to the state’s Ministry of Finance, the Assembly’s Clerk, Sakinatu Idris, requested details of financial transactions, loans, and contract projects awarded during El-Rufai’s tenure.

The letter, with reference number LEG/S. 382/VOL. II/615, directed the ministry to submit relevant documents to an ad-hoc committee set up for the probe.
The documents requested include total loans approved by the Kaduna State House of Assembly between 2015 and 2023, accounts into which the loans were lodged and drawn, state executive council minutes, reports of salaries paid to staff, Dloyd reports on KADRIS, terms and conditions of loans, appropriation items related to loans, records of payments made to contractors, modalities for payments of contracts, and documents related to the sales of government houses/properties and the expenditure of the proceeds.
The Assembly instructed the ministry to submit thirty copies of the memorandum and documents by April 25, 2024, indicating a thorough investigation into the financial affairs of the previous administration.
