The Kano State Police Command has refuted reports circulating on social media alleging an attack on an 18-seater bus carrying Igbo passengers in Kano, describing the claims as “false and misleading.”
In a statement on Saturday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, urged the public to disregard the viral news and refrain from spreading unverified information, misinformation, and hate speech that could incite panic or unrest.
“The Kano State Police Command is committed to maintaining law and order in the state and ensuring the safety and security of all residents, regardless of their ethnic or religious backgrounds,” the statement read.

Kiyawa further disclosed that the police have launched an investigation into the source of the fake news and vowed to take necessary action against those responsible.
“We appeal to the public to cooperate with the police and report any suspicious activities or individuals spreading false information to the nearest police station or through our emergency numbers. Let us work together to maintain peace, harmony, and security in Kano State,” he added.
The false report emerged amid ongoing tensions following the recent killing of 16 northerners in Edo State by local vigilantes, who allegedly mistook them for kidnappers while they were traveling to Kano.
