The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has revealed a revised completion date for Nigeria’s $2.8 billion Ajaokuta–Kaduna–Kano gas pipeline project, which is being constructed by Oilserv Limited.
Initially slated for commissioning in December 2023, the project’s completion has been rescheduled to December 2024, according to Mele Kyari, the Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of NNPC Ltd. Kyari made this announcement during his address at the 2024 Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Oloibiri Lecture Series & Energy Forum (OLEF) in Abuja on Thursday.
Kyari emphasized NNPC’s commitment to developing gas infrastructure nationwide, with a focus on investing in critical infrastructure to boost economic prosperity by supplying gas to the domestic market, aiming to reach at least 8 billion cubic meters.
The AKK gas pipeline project, spanning 614 kilometers, was inaugurated in July 2020. Once completed, it is expected to facilitate the transportation of natural gas from Ajaokuta in Kogi State to Kano through multiple states, significantly enhancing gas supply across the country.
