The Katsina State Police Command has successfully repelled a kidnapping attempt and rescued five victims in Faskari Local Government Area.
This was disclosed in a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Sadiq Aliyu, and made available to journalists on Tuesday.
According to the statement, the police received a distress call around 9:37 p.m. regarding an armed bandit attack on a Hummer bus with registration number T0510 KN and a white Mendez truck, LFA 508 YR, at Unguwar Basau along the Funtua-Gusau Road.
Responding swiftly, a police patrol team engaged the attackers in a fierce gun battle, ultimately overpowering them with superior firepower.
“All five kidnapped victims — two drivers and three passengers — were rescued safely. However, four of the victims sustained varying degrees of injuries and are currently receiving treatment at Sheme Primary Health Centre,” the statement noted.
The Katsina State Commissioner of Police, CP Bello Shehu, commended the operatives for their swift action and assured that investigations are ongoing.
He added that further updates will be communicated as the probe progresses.
