Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has ruled out any possibility of negotiations with the United States, dismissing recent claims by former U.S. President Donald Trump that he had sent a letter regarding nuclear talks.
In his first public speech since Trump’s remarks, Khamenei also criticized France, Germany, and Britain for condemning Iran’s non-compliance with the 2015 nuclear deal, accusing them of hypocrisy and dishonesty.
Speaking in Tehran on Saturday during a meeting with Iranian officials, Khamenei insisted that Iran would not succumb to U.S. pressure.
“The insistence of some bullying governments on negotiations is not aimed at resolving issues but rather at asserting dominance and imposing their demands,” he stated. “The Islamic Republic of Iran will certainly not accept their demands.”
He further slammed the three European nations for accusing Tehran of breaching the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
“They claim Iran has not fulfilled its nuclear commitments! Someone should ask them: Have you fulfilled yours? You never did from the very beginning! There should be a limit to shamelessness,” Khamenei declared.
His remarks come after Trump revealed that he had reached out to Iran with an offer for negotiations, while also warning that military intervention remained an option.
