A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, has said the defection of former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, signals trouble for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Eze described Kwankwaso as a grassroots politician with strong mass appeal and a commitment to democratic governance.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, he said Kwankwaso’s move to the ADC represents a significant political blow to Tinubu’s re-election prospects.

“By joining the ADC, Kwankwaso has dealt a heavy political uppercut blow to President Tinubu’s re-election bid. This defection, borne out of patriotism and the need to salvage the country from bad governance, is a bad omen for Tinubu and his co-travellers,” Eze said.
He added that Kwankwaso’s decision reflects concerns over the state of the nation, noting that a coalition of opposition forces remains the most viable path to unseat the current administration.
Eze also commended Kwankwaso for aligning with the ADC, which he described as a platform committed to rescuing Nigerians from what he termed poor governance.
He further praised the party’s growing ranks, listing prominent political figures such as Atiku Abubakar, Rotimi Amaechi, Peter Obi, Aminu Tambuwal and Nasir El-Rufai as part of the coalition.
According to him, Kwankwaso’s entry into the party further strengthens the opposition and places the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) under pressure.
Eze urged ADC members to remain united ahead of the party’s primaries, stressing the need to seize the opportunity presented by the current political climate.
“Tinubu has, through his performance in office, made it easier for ADC, as a viable alternative, to take over the mantle of governance. We must not falter,” he said.
Kwankwaso, a former Minister of Defence and NNPP presidential candidate in 2023, formally joined the ADC on Monday after registering and receiving his membership card in Kano.
