The Labour Party (LP) has dismissed social media reports claiming that its leadership is collaborating with President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The reports stemmed from a video by activist Deji Adeyanju, alleging that the LP had entered into a partnership with Tinubu in preparation for the next presidential poll.
In a statement on Friday, the National Publicity Secretary of the Labour Party, Mr. Obiora Ifoh, debunked the claims, describing them as baseless.

He emphasized that the LP has repeatedly refuted allegations of any alliance with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
“As a matter of fact, the Labour Party is the most visible opposition party today, and our National Chairman, Barrister Julius Abure, is the leading voice in the opposition camp, consistently critical of the current government,” Ifoh stated.
He highlighted the LP’s continued role in scrutinizing the government after the 2023 general elections, including critiquing policies, proposing solutions, and advocating for systemic reforms.
“The party, under the leadership of Mr. Julius Abure, recently introduced several initiatives, including the creation of an Electoral Reform Committee aimed at establishing credible, fair, and transparent processes for selecting leaders in the country,” he added.
Ifoh also noted that the LP has established a Political Education Committee to reorient citizens on politics and launched an e-membership registration platform to deepen participatory democracy, with thousands of Nigerians already subscribing.
He criticized Adeyanju’s allegations, calling them “unguarded and callous,” and challenged him to provide evidence to support his claims.
“We are therefore challenging Deji Adeyanju or anyone else to present facts or proofs showing that either the party leadership or Mr. Abure intends to work for President Bola Tinubu or the APC in 2027,” Ifoh concluded.
