The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of Inspector Obi Modestus, the officer captured in a viral video physically assaulting an Uber driver.
The video, widely circulated on social media platform X by user @dammiedammie35 (Oyindamola), showed the officer repeatedly striking the driver in a violent manner, sparking public outrage and condemnation.
Oyindamola captioned the video: “A new video of Nigerian policemen violently assaulting an Uber driver. Please spread this video, this is someone’s father they’re beating like an animal.”

Reacting to the incident on Monday, the spokesperson for the Command, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, announced that Inspector Modestus has been summoned by the Complaint Response Unit (CRU) and will be transferred to the Provost Department for disciplinary action.
Hundeyin reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to professionalism and accountability, stating: “The Lagos State Police Command, under the leadership of CP Owohunwa Jimoh, will not condone any form of incivility to members of the public.”
The Command assured the public that appropriate sanctions will be imposed following internal disciplinary procedures.
