The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed has expressed commendation to the Nigerian military for their commitment and loyalty to the course of Nigerian unity. He revealed the praise recently when he held a World Press Conference at the Obasanjo Hall in the Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Federal Secretariat Phase II, Abuja.
Lai Mohammed, who visited Konduga, Bama and Maiduguri areas of Borno State last weekend briefed Bureau Chiefs, News Editors, Defence Correspondents and other journalists that the Nigerian military is really working hard to ensure that Bama and Konduga which have been attacked about 28 times are now free of terrorist attack. According to him, the purpose of the visit was to obtain a sound information about the successes and challenges of the military operatives in the North-East and to better inform Nigerians on the situation. He urged Nigerians to support the military as the war is for all Nigerians and Nigerians need to own the war. “Nigerians should be sensitized to be more security conscious,” he iterated.
During an interactive session with the media, issues were raised on whether Nigerians have been assured that by the end of December 2015, there will be no more insurgency in the North East of the country. Other issues presented bothered on what the Government/military decision on the Chibok girls has been and when the originators of Boko Haram would be punished, among others.
While responding to the questions, the Minister said that with the situation of things now, the military has won the war in a manner that the insurgents will not be able to enjoy the spate of dislodgement they used to enjoy. He added that another onslaught was recorded in Sambisa forest on Sunday December 6, 2015, indicating that Government is extremely concerned about the daily affairs in the region.
The Minister espoused that the position of Government with regards to the originators of insurgency is how to address the present dilemma confronting the country as no one found in the mess will go unpunished, but due process will be followed. He urged Nigerians to be security conscious as well as give credit and honour to those soldiers, who have lost their lives in the process of serving their country by compensating the families they have left behind.
