Webtrends Analytics® for SharePoint helps Gatwick measure and improve employee engagement on its intranet
London, 22 January 2016 – Webtrends announced today that London Gatwick Airport, the second largest airport in the United Kingdom, selected Webtrends Analytics for SharePoint to measure how its employees are engaging with content on its intranet. Gatwick serves more than 40 million passengers traveling to 200 destinations each year and employs 2,600 employees.
After implementing a Microsoft SharePoint intranet as the central hub for company news, employee information and team updates, the intranet managers from various departments were challenged to measure the intranet’s success and usage numbers to demonstrate the investment’s value. Gatwick decided on Webtrends Analytics for SharePoint given its wealth of pre-defined, out-of-the-box specific reports and metrics. The technology was implemented to meet Gatwick’s requirements with little need for additional configuration.
“Now that we have usage analytics, we can exploit our SharePoint intranet to its full potential,” said Linda Mortimer, internal communications executive at Gatwick. “Webtrends Analytics for SharePoint has given us clear insight into how our employees are navigating pages and content, how they interact, share ideas, and which assets are most useful. We’ll be using this to improve our site going forward.”
While the analytics implementation is still in the initial stages, early data is already surfacing. For example, Gatwick noted that more than 800 front-line employees accessed the intranet over a one-month period, with a total of 8,500 individual visits. In addition, 257 of these 800 employees were from security, the department with the highest number of employees (a total of 1,500). With such insights, Gatwick can improve the content that is available for different users to ensure it’s relevant to their needs.
“We have been impressed not only with the information we can now access with Webtrends, but also with the impeccable service we receive from our account team,” continued Mortimer. “They have taken the time to understand our challenges and have used an intelligent approach to ensure we were given exactly what we needed.”

About London Gatwick Airport
Gatwick Airport is the UK’s second largest airport and the most efficient single-runway airport in the world. It serves more than 200 destinations in 90 countries for more than 40 million passengers a year on short and long-haul point-to-point services. It is also a major economic driver for the South-East region, generating around 21,000 on-airport jobs and a further 10,000 jobs through related activities. The airport is 28 miles south of London with excellent public transport links, including the Gatwick Express. Gatwick Airport is owned by a group of international investment funds, of which Global Infrastructure Partners is the largest shareholder.
The Government is currently considering whether London Gatwick or Heathrow should be permitted to build a new runway. Expansion at Gatwick will best meet the UK’s aviation needs for the future, can provide the greatest economic boost with the least environmental impact, and a new runway can be operational by 2025.
