MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA–(Marketwired – Jan 7, 2014) – Radio Taxis Group (RTG), the world’s first carbon neutral taxi company, increased efficiency and revenue by standardizing on the Appcelerator® Platform. With the release of its first app, a fully native, cross-platform app for ‘virtually hailing’ a taxi, RTG realized significant business and IT benefits, including:
- Increased bookings revenue
- 98% shared code across device OSs
- Saving 50% of development costs
- Drastically reduced QA cycle times
Radio Taxis Group, which has a fleet of several thousand iconic black taxicabs on the streets of London, saw an opportunity to transform their business by taking advantage of the mobile phenomenon. To accomplish this, they sought a mobile platform that included the following key requirements:
- Support for fully native cross-platform apps on Apple, Android and BlackBerry
- An elastically scaling enterprise-grade MBaaS with tools for API integrations and push notifications to manage the location of thousands of taxis in real-time
- Comprehensive analytics to provide visibility in understanding the activity and engagement level of end users as they go from ‘Look to Book’
- The ability to reuse assets such as UI widgets and business logic for future apps in order to further lower costs and realize economies of scale
“Using Appcelerator was one of the best decisions we’ve made,” said Martin Hudson, CTO, Mobile Data Systems and mobility lead for RTG. “Since the release of the first RTG app, we’re seeing hundreds of new bookings every day that would otherwise have gone to competitors. We believe that in the next two years, revenue from mobile will go from 0% to 80% of RTG’s total bookings.”
“Appcelerator is thrilled to be powering the transportation of thousands of people from Buckingham Palace to London Bridge and everywhere in between,” said Jeff Haynie, CEO of Appcelerator. “Appcelerator enables Radio Taxis Group to drive costs down and revenues up, while satisfying all the customers who interact with their software.”
RTG is now building several new apps, one for foreign tourists and one for existing corporate clients. “For each, we’re expecting to re-use between 70%-80% of the existing code, thereby saving us valuable development and testing time,” said Hudson.
