Mabey Hire establishes industry’s first dedicated Monitoring and Control Team

    – New team designs and installs instrumentation, monitoring, control and data management systems
    – Highways Agency and Network Rail among many building reconstruction projects, providing substantial experience in complex structure scenarios

Building on almost a century of experience in construction and civil engineering, Mabey Hire has launched the industry’s first dedicated Monitoring and Control team to provide a complete range of solutions for its customers.

Offering a comprehensive range of both structural and non-structural services for applications including environmental monitoring, equipment calibration and product testing, the newly-formed team focuses on developing and delivering new monitoring and control technologies to market. The team itself consists of highly experienced Geodetic, Geotechnic, Electronic Engineers, Civil/Structural Engineers and Hydraulic specialists, providing access to a broad skill base which can support clients with efficient monitoring and measurement solutions.

One of the key user benefits of the new business offering is its flexibility. Clients are able to define their own level of involvement – from ‘hire-only’ through to fully-managed monitoring solutions. This enables Mabey Hire to respond with the most appropriate tools and approach, whatever the project requirements.

An example of the new technologies that have been developed by the team is its market leading, bespoke Instrumentation Management System (IMS), which combines Geodetic and Geotechnic monitoring with propping and jacking systems for complete structural intelligence. Its intuitive functionality can perform self-checks on data and comparative data to evaluate the quality of the source feeds. The IMS can be accessed via a dedicated website – LiveSite – which provides a full graphical user interface for every aspect of the project, allowing virtually unlimited manipulation of data. High and low frequency solutions have been designed to be ‘plug and play’ and upload to the Mabey Hire Instrumentation data website, upon activation. This managed service approach leads to significant resource savings for the contractor.

Mabey Hire has long been established as a UK market leader in the design, supply and execution of temporary propping and jacking solutions,” said Steve Farmer, CEO, Mabey Hire. “It makes complete sense to encompass monitoring and safety aspects of these solutions as a service to our customers.”

“Built on our core skills and values, the opportunities for innovation in this fast-developing area of the market are almost limitless,” Dave Holland, Project Manager for Mabey Instrumentation comments. “We are intent on becoming the leading innovationist in the market, providing exciting, ground-breaking services to our clients.”

Mabey Hire has incorporated these systems on Highways Agency and Network Rail projects, including the Canning Town Flyover (part of C305 Crossrail), together with many of the UK’s prestigious building reconstruction projects. The Mabey Hire Monitoring & Control team will be showcasing their capabilities at the Railtex exhibition at the NEC in Birmingham on 12th to 14th May 2015, and can be found at stand V91.
