As discussion moved on to a consideration of the second theme of the extraordinary meeting of the national Council on Information held 5th July, 2014, Mr. Labaran Maku has re-emphasized the need for the radicalization of their people for peace and de-radicalization of communities to insecurity.
Mr. Labaran Maku who is the Information Minister gave the example of Dadinkowa of Plateau State whose people which cut across the two major religions bonded against any threat to their peace. He urged all the States Commissioners to go back and develop template for mobilizing the peoples of their States and Communities for peace building and security.
While discussing the keynote speech of the Minister, Ben Bako, a delegate representing Kaduna has drawn the attention of the NCI to the plight of Fulanis whose livelihood depends on herding cattle who are however being branded to be threatening the security of communities where they find themselves at any time. The delegate seeks the opportunity of the NCI to take a second look at the plight of this people in the way they have been so branded.
Some of the other delegates drew attention of the meeting to issues of fear and trepidation which people in the affected areas regard the insurgents who have been threatening peace in the country.
A representative of one of the North-Eastern States present at the meeting disclosed that even when the activities of the insurgents have to be referred to in the mobilization messages in the media, they dare not refer to insurgents in their popular names but they call the insurgents “Brothers” in Hausa language.
