A 47-year-old man, Temitope Elegbede, was on Wednesday arraigned before a Chief Magistrates’ Court in Badagry, Lagos State, over alleged assault and breach of peace.
The defendant, whose residential address was not disclosed, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, Edet Ekpo, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on April 7 at about 9:20 a.m. at Panusa Ajobuwe Street in Ilogbo, Badagry.

He alleged that Elegbede assaulted his landlady, Oluwabunmi Otokiti, by grabbing her neck inside her residence.
Ekpo further stated that the defendant conducted himself in a manner likely to breach public peace.
“The defendant was later arrested and handed over to the police for prosecution,” he said.
According to the prosecutor, the offences contravene Sections 168 and 172 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The Chief Magistrate, Nurudeen Layeni, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000 with sureties in like sum, adding that one of the sureties must be a community leader.
The case was adjourned until May 14 for mention.
