The Lagos State Police on Monday arraigned a 36-year-old man, Samuel Kehinde, before a Chief Magistrates’ Court in Badagry for allegedly stealing a motorcycle valued at N1,200,000.
Kehinde, whose address remains unknown, is facing a two-count charge of felony and theft. The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, Inspector Ayodele Adeosun, informed the court that Kehinde committed the alleged offences on September 24 at around 11:00 a.m. at the Eyenkole Community, Ilogbo-Eremi, in Badagry, Lagos.
Adeosun explained that the defendant conspired with others, still at large, to commit theft.
“He stole a motorcycle with registration number DX 167 QP, valued at N1,200,000, belonging to one Rabiu Semiu,” the prosecutor said.
He added that Kehinde was apprehended while attempting to sell the stolen motorcycle and was subsequently handed over to the police for prosecution.
The prosecutor noted that the offences violate Sections 411 and 287 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.
Chief Magistrate Patrick Adekomaiya granted Kehinde bail in the sum of N300,000 with two sureties in the same amount.
One of the sureties, he ruled, must be a Lagos State civil servant on Level 12.
The case was adjourned until November 5 for further mention.
