Nigerian striker, Kelechi Iheanacho will feature heavily in Pep Guardiola’s plans according to the Manchester City manager.
Iheanacho was promoted to City’s first team last year by former manager Manuel Pellegrini but doubts over his future at the Etihad emerged following the appointment of Guardiola who took over this season.
Under Guardiola however, Iheanancho has been involved in several games and was last week rewarded with a new two-year contract extension.
The 19-year was impressive in City 4-1 Premier League win at Stoke City over the weekend, coming off the bench to make the third and fourth goals.
Guardiola praised the young striker and revealed that the Nigeria international is needed at the club.
“He (Iheanacho) is always ready,” Guardiola told British media.
“We will need him. Sergio can’t play all season and Kelli is going to play.
“We can’t achieve anything with just 11 or 12 players. We need everybody and I hope they realise that.”
Iheanancho is likely to be named in City’s squad to face Steaua Bucharest in the second leg of their Champions League playoff on Wednesday, August 24.
