Manchester United are set to complete a deal for Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata this weekend and will announce the transfer next week, according to reports in Spain.
United had an opening bid of £52million rejected by Madrid for the Spaniard but the Red Devils are confident of reaching in agreement in the coming days.
Morata, 24, is keen on leaving the Bernabeu after making just 19 starts under Zinedine Zidane last season and he’s been promised an important role at Old Trafford by Jose Mourinho.
The Portuguese boss gave him his debut in Madrid and Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s departure means Morata could lead the line for United after being reinstated into the Champions League.
According to COPE, United are confident of announcing Morata’s arrival next Tuesday or Wednesday.
The Spaniard will be United’s second signing of the summer following Victor Lindelof’s move to Old Trafford.
However, Morata’s unveiling at the club will likely have to wait as he is set to marry long-term girlfriend Alice Campello this week before going on their honeymoon.
Mourinho wants to sign a winger this summer but United’s move for Inter Milan ace Ivan Perisic has hit a snag due to the Italian giants’ valuation of the Croatian.
Inter are demanding £52m for the former Wolfsburg ace but United are unwilling to raise their £34m bid.
